Thousands of years ago, before the Municipality of Paris "created" the "Love Bridge" which eventually collapsed under the weight of locks that couples in love hung on it, the Cypriot sea sculpted and prepared the people for its own “Love Bridge".
East of the pre-eminent tourist destination, Ayia Napa in a location of the cape called "Pidalion" or Cape Greco where there is a series of caves, created by nature, being carved for millions of years on the rocky, steep coast, and through a passage, a natural bridge.
This very beautiful, natural construction remained unknown for thousands of years, since the Ayia Napa was only a small a farming village in a rugged, remote part away from the cities, which was known to very few Cypriots no strangers.
Then came the tragic events of 1974 that led the island to the worst disaster ever from the day it was inhabited. The Turkish invasion, forced 200,000 Greek Cypriots to flee their homes and villages turning them to refugees in their own country.
Amongst them were thousands of residents of the most beautiful city of the Eastern Mediterranean, Famagusta. In addition to homes, property, churches lost during the invasion, the most beautiful, clear water beaches were also lost.
In 1980, first the Cypriots and then foreigners among which firstly the Swedish, discovered Agia Napa. They discovered an area which was characterised by its inaccessible areas which “hid” natural beaches of unique beauty.
In a few years Ayia Napa as a modern Cinderella, was transformed and became perhaps the most attractive global tourist destination. Its hundreds of thousands of visitors, along with its beaches, clean seas, the hospitality of its people, discovered the natural bridge which the sea of "prepared" for them.
Without someone determining it, thousands of young couples have completed their relationship, giving their vows of eternal loyalty and love on this beautiful natural creation that in the minds of all those was inscribed as the "Love Bridge".
In 2014, the municipality of Agia Napa, chose an area which is adjacent to the Love Bridge to "build" another bridge. It included the bridge on the pedestrian path that connects almost all the beaches of Ayia Napa and called it "Love Bridge". It is the embellishment of the small creek bed through which cold water flowed until a few years ago, from a source located northeast of the municipality, which dried up.
