Agglisides (the name is not spelt correctly, but everyone everywhere, even on the internet, write Agglisides instead of Angleisides, therefore I will also follow their mistake) is a village belonging to the district of Larnaca, which is divided into “pano Agglisides” and “kato Agglisides”. Today we shall deal with Kato Agglisides.
At the entrance of the village, after 50 years of work at intervals, a church-ornament was accomplished and delivered to the residents of the community. The church of Agios Therapontas and Agia Marina (and the old church is that of Agia Marina and is found about in the centre of the village) is an architecturally impressive construction which has been fully realised from the donations of Greek Christians of the village. The Cypriot Archdiocese did not contribute to this.
There were also Turkish-Cypriot families in Agglisides until 1963 which abandoned the village after the incidents caused by Ankara.
The undergrounds of the area have been proved to be very rich in gold mining and is placed second, after a precise area of Paphos, after recent researches and experimental drilling.
In Agglisides there is still an oil press that is functional during the months of winter, which confirms the fact that there are still many olive trees in the orchards.
