The Orthodox church honours the memory of 3 different pairs of Saints, having the same names, Kosmas and Damianos. All of them were doctors and none of them ever accepted payment for their services. Their only difference, were their origins. Their memory is honoured at different dates.
In the village Agioi Vavatsinias, the memory of Agioi Anargyroi coming from Asia is honoured. According to its residents and their tradition, the Saints passed by their village while on a tour they were having in Cyprus.
Upon entering the small village as it was back then, they walked next to the natural source and called its water “Agiasma” (‘Holy water’). It is said that it may perform miracles.
At a distance of 200 metres from the “Agiasma”, a church was built and dedicated to the two miracle performing Saints. It is a triple-aisled Basilica and is vaulted. It is a very beautiful construction that matches perfectly with the surrounding area. It was built with stone coming from the village itself and has the colours such of the land as of the big number of traditional houses around it.
The square found on the south of the church has been restored and paved with stone slabs. A Cultural centre, a traditional coffee shop (it is important for our villages to dispose of traditional coffee shops) and a cafe-restaurant are found in it, all built in the same architectural style.
Agioi Anargyroi in Agioi Vavatsinias are celebrated on the 1st of November, where in the church’s yard many events are held.
