The church of Agios Georgios is found on the exit of Alethriko towards Kivisili. It is an ancient church and no one knows when it was constructed. The only thing we know about it is that it has a Basilica style.
The Church is placed on the south side of the hill and from there you can admire a panoramic view of the green valley of the Pouzi river. Agios Georgios is believed to have performed many miracles, amongst which was the control of the number of muslims in the village that never overcame the number of 21. If with the birth rate, they grew to 22, then someone either died or moved to neighbouring villages.
Another so-called miracle is that of the repentance of the tax collector, Costas Ellinas, who erected a Church in another Saint’s name, Agios Epifanios. The head of Alethriko should be more interested in the church and beautify its surroundings, no matter how poor the income of the council is.
