The Holy Monastery of Agios Rafael and Agia Marina is built close to the church of Agia Marina - a church that has been constructed in the 14th century. In 1989 a sorority settled in the monastery.
This sorority was, and still is today, very active. In a very short period of time after their settlement, the nuns built a small chapel in the name of Agios Rafael. The people’s response was very positive to this fact, which gave the nuns the necessary economic ease, to construct a grand Church in the name of Saints Rafael and Marina. Other churches, of smaller dimensions, followed in the name of other saints, as well as a museum of agricultural means and tools.
The sorority handling this Holy Monastery, welcomes each visitor with Christian love. You can wander about all the Monastery’s places without any limits, which happens nowhere else in Cyprus. The nuns answer to all the questions concerning the Monastery willingly.
If you are travelling through the new road from Nicosia to Agia Napa, do not neglect to deviate your way for a kilometre and go to light a candle. Agios Rafael is said to be a living Saint.
