Kalavasos is found at about forty kilometres southwest of the city of Larnaca. It is built on the western shore that was formed by the Vasilikos river, and it dominates the valley of the river. A valley that is green and has orange trees as well as other citrus trees and wild vegetation. Due to the fact that the village was built on a narrow strip of the bank, parallel to the riverbed, the houses seem to be piled up one on another.
Narrow, paved streets end up in yards. Kalavasos and its progressive settlers, should feel lucky for the choice the village to have been built on the precise area. A great river provides them with the water necessary to keep their fields green. The distance from the sea does not exceed 5 kilometres, a fact that attracts many visitors. Agrotourism is booming and there are dozens of traditional homes that participate in the agrotourism plans.
The settlers are simple, everyday people, ready to serve you and to inform you about their village, even the small children will reach their hand towards you to “welcome” you. A church and six chapels show the religious character of the settlers. An old elementary school with hellenistic columns on its facade, witnesses the Hellenism of the village.
Dozens of metal mines on the west side of the village and in the waterdam area, there are remains of previous years that attract you for exploration of the way of life of the people of that period. The train, is on the railway, as if it is ready to screech for departure, and it welcomes you at the village’s entrance. Two parks with play places receive children and adults for a few carefree hours. The archeological area, being the Tent is a negative element. I do not know where it is worth being visited by someone and to pay an entrance fee for it.
