Kivisili was a Turkish Cypriot village up until 1974. Its residents lived peacefully and fraternally with the Greek Cypriots of the neighbouring village, which is Alethriko. The river Pouzis runs through Kivisili and has is source in the northern areas of the villages that neighbour with Kivisili.
After 1974, the Turkish Cypriots abandoned the village, their houses and fortunes, and went to the occupied by the Turks areas of Cyprus. Refugees from the Ammochostos (Famagusta) district came to replace them. The houses that were settled by the Greeks of Cyprus, conserve the architecture that they had before being abandoned.
On the square where the Mosque was, a small park for children was created. On the east side of Pouzis, the church of Panagia Eleousa is built. Before 1974 the Greek Cypriot residents of Alethriko went over to perform liturgies. For many years there was a conflict between the temporary residents of Kivisili with the residents of Alethriko about who had the right to take over the church. After many conflicts, the solution was given by the Archdiocese of Cyprus.
