Villages in Cyprus - Mazotos, Larnaca

Added on: by

The village of Mazotos belonging to the District of Larnaca, is found 20 kilometres west of the town of Larnaca at a half distance between Kition and Zygi. It is on the frontiers of the village of Alaminos from the northwest side and with the Anafotia village from the north. As a settlement it does not have a lot to offer to the visitor. The architecture the old village is following, is similar to the one followed by most lowland villages of Cyprus.

However, it offers a rich history that is lost in the depth of time. Byzantines, Templars, Romans, Franks and Turks that oppressed the island, installed administrative centres in Mazotos.

In the Byzantine period, the famous, and probably the most important battle of the empire, the battle of Keramaia took place on its shores.

The Romans left a piece of the coastal road that used to join the ancient Kition with the Kingdom of Amathounta.

Today Mazotos has been extended in all directions and has great success in Tourism, especially for its beaches. For the same reason, hundreds of Cypriots have chosen Mazotos to build a cottage.

There is no nightlife. In Mazotos, the visitor will have services that have to do with the sea and the sun. If you want something more, Larnaca is very close by.
