On the 19th of April 2012, just after the dam’s overflow, that only happened 14 years after its inauguration, the Mukhtar of Kalavasos, Lefteris Foka announced “Seventeen million, four hundred thousand cubic metres of water, have sufficiently ensured irrigation of rural cultivation for the next five years in the areas of Kalavasos-Pentaschoinos”.
In one year, the 17 million cubic metres were gone, and the only thing left was an empty dam. The Kalavasos water dam has a capacity of 18 million m3. It is a gravity dam and has a height of 62 metres and a length of 500 metres. It overflowed in 1998 and 2012.
