Bridges in Cyprus - Diplogefiro of Trimiklini, Trimiklini, Limassol

Added on: by

In the village of Trimiklini, that belongs to the district of Limassol, you will find the only “diplogefiro” (double bridge) in Cyprus. What makes it unique is that one bridge is built on top of the other.

The first one was built in 1901 to join the shores of the Kouris river, so as to serve the passers and the carriages that travelled to and from Troodos. With the presence of vehicles on the island in 1917, the bridge became inaccessible by them and this is how the need to build a new, higher and wider one emerged. Thus they build one bridge on top of the other.

It is built on a very beautiful gorge, a hundred metres south of the dam of Trimiklini. The waters of Kouris never stop passing under the bridge’s arch, in the winter as well as in the summer, thus creating an amazing environment with wonderful views.

Unfortunately the only double bridge of Cyprus has been left in time and the weather conditions; these are two ruthless factors that destroy monuments abandoned by humans.
