In the small village of Sanida, in Limassol, there is a church dedicated to Metamorfoseos tou Sotiros (Transformation of the Savior). It is three-aisled basilica. The roof is covered with tiles and forms six vaults.
We were informed that the shape of the Basilica bearing vaults, is a very widespread architectural shape in Cyprus and it thrived after the end of Ottoman rule, by builders who came from the area of Nicosia called "Kaimakli".
The temple is built of rough stone and the angles of the exterior columns and the arches connecting them is carved stone. In many places it bears carvings and patterns. Unfortunately, for many years the Church had no care, thus the exterior walls has undergone corrosion and many carvings have been lost.
Currently, there are crews which are making sure to correct any damage it has undergone by time.
