The Kolossi Medieval Castle, was built upon the ruins of an older castle about in the middle of the 13th century, by the knights of Saint John from Jerusalem. The fortress was passed on to many hands through time and there between were the Templars.
The surrounding area was and probably still is the only one that can produce the Coumandaria raisin, from which the homonymous wine is extracted. No other place in Cyprus produces such a sweet wine as coumandaria. The entrance fee for the castle is 2,50 euros, an amount that is not representative of the feelings resented during the tour within it. From the very first moment you enter the fortress, up until the last one you expect to be attacked by the knights.
