The waterfall of Chantara is formed 3 kilometres south of the Monastery of Trooditissa and a kilometre north of the village of Foini, on the river of Trooditissa, or as it is called by the residents of the surrounding areas “diplos potamos” (double river). A few kilometres more north it joins the big river Diarizos.
To get to the waterfall, you should travel from Kato Platres to Foini. Once you see the exit that takes you to Foini, you should carry on for another hundred metres straight and you will find an exit on the right along with a road sign.
It is a gentle uphill and it is a dirt road but it is accessible to all cars and it takes us to the point where the river forms waterfalls in a very beautiful environment. The pine forest dominates the shores of the river, just as the platanus on the riverbed, where you will also see alder trees. On the lowest level of the forest, under the shadow of the pine forest the Cypriot tree Latzia (golden oak) dominates.
Do not limit yourselves on the waterfall and the small bridge that are in the area. Get closer to the waterfall and on your right hand side you will find graved steps on a rough rock. Follow them and they will take you to an even more magnificent landscape of the river.
The waterfall got its name from Antara (noise) that the river makes as it descends from above. As such, Antara became Chantara.
