Pathways in Cyprus - Doksa soi o Theos pathway - Madari, Adelfoi, Limassol

Location “Doksa soi o Theos” is the beginning of a journey of 3.75 kilometres ending a few dozens of metres away from the “adelphoi” (brothers) peak where the fire lookout station of Madari is found. The access until the location “Doksa soi o Theos” is made through very good, asphalt roads such in Kyperounta as in the location “Moutti tis choras”.

At the beginning of the 3.75 kilometres, there is a faucet with potable and very cold water, and it continues with 13 stone steps taking you to the trail. From the very first steps you take, you will realise what you will see and what you will feel during the whole journey.

Behind the shelter with the wooden bench, that you will find after the 13 steps, there is a beautiful view that is hidden by the golden oaks and the pines. North of the valley of Mesaoria, with Pentadaktylos showing in the background, on the left you will see Morfou with its fields and its sea, and on the west you will see the Troodos mountain and under it, Kavounas. On the east, the fire lookout station is found on the highest peak of Madari, the peak called “Adelphoi”, which “hovers” from the clouds.

The difference in altitude that you need to cover is about 200 metres. The creator of the trail is the Department of Forests of Cyprus, that placed it under the 3rd category, which means that it considers the trail being very difficult. In addition, it suggests that children should avoid walking along it.

From its starting point, the trail is uphill. At some of its points, it is extremely uphill. You need to wear adequate shoes for hiking and have a lot of water with you. If you are not used to journeys with difficult ups and downs, do not give in to the temptation to walk along it. We are saying so because the trail “enchants” you.

Each of its turns, presents a new location, different from all previous ones. At one moment you see the Madari and mountain tops south and the next thing you see is the plain of Mesaoria and other part of the sea of Morphou and at some turns mountains of Caramania in Turkey.

Do not just limit yourselves in the trail. The department of forests made sure that there are places for observing the view at many of its turns. Most points are located adjacent to and outside of the path.

Upon arriving to the end which is just a few meters below the fire lookout station, get onto it and feel for a moment that you are "gods". Look at Cyprus from up there. It will seem a drop to you.

Take into consideration that the trail “Doksa soi o Theos - Fire lookout station of Madari” is linear if you take it on its own. It is circular if you continue along one of the other trails present in the area where the fire lookout station is located. Otherwise you will have to go back for another 3.75 km.

The creator, estimates that the time needed for someone to cover it to be two hours. We walked along it in 6 hours but we took 2300 photos and 3 hours of videos. Add another hour and a half to return. We said so from the beginning. The trail enchants you, attention and respect are required.
