Arsos, Limassol, is the village that was built in the place of the Holy Alsos (grove) of Aphrodite which has “inherited” the natural charms of the Goddess. In a ravine, there is still a small part of the grove in which there are six natural sources of water. For thousands of years the water gushes out of the Holy ground forming a small river that connects kilometres away with the big river Diarizos.
In the past century, the people built the sources with stone and transformed them into faucets in order for the residents of the village to be able to provide themselves with the necessary amount of water for their home’s needs as well as to irrigate their fields.
Later on, when the water needs changed and a water supply network was created in the houses, the six faucets were abandoned. Two of them were destroyed and the rest are filled in vegetation and covered in brambles and bushes.
Only a few years ago, a trail of nature was created which includes the six faucets. The trail got its name from the faucets, thus it was called “Monopati Exi Vrises” (The trail of the six faucets). It is small in length, just about 1200 metres long, but it has so much to offer the walker.
The faucet “Pano Vrisi” (Upper faucet) is third in the row. A wooden staircase takes you to it. It is a beautiful stone built construction. This faucet was at the point where women from Arsos washed their clothes and gave water to their animals. The adequately transformed faucet provides facilities such to humans as to animals.
On the north side there is a paved street taking you to the village. The surrounding area of the faucet is mainly covered in wild roses, various, high, fruit-giving platanus trees.
If you travel to Arsos, do not neglect visiting the six faucets. They will impress you and you will learn a lot about the flora of the area.
