The settlement of Profitis Ilias is located in the administrative district of the village of Sykopetra and it is about three kilometers away from it. This settlement, has a long history since it was founded only a few decades ago.
"It is said" that a shepherd, a resident of Sykopetra, found an icon in the form of the Prophet Elijah, while grazing his sheep on the hillside ravine created tributary Amathos. On a nearby plateau, dominating the valley of the river, he built a small chapel and dedicated it to Prophet Elias.
He and his family, considered finding the icon as some kind of a hint, so they moved to the area where they erected the chapel and remained there, and built their homes. Over the years others followed them and thus the settlement of Profitis Ilias was created. It is not a large settlement, family units do not exceed twenty.
What is impressing, is the location of the settlement. Towering mountain peaks surround the east, west and north. The southern area is covered by the river valley, which formed an unreal mountainous terrain. The geomorphology of the area, with dozens of streams from one and the many peaks on the other, which "spread" hundreds of meters below the river, will surprise even the most demanding visitor.
