In Trozena, a village of Limassol, except from the very beautiful in terms of architecture chapel dedicated to Agios Georgios, except from the headwaters of Trozena found east of the village among very high Platanus trees, except from the magnificent images that the visitor can see from the peak where the ruins of Trozena are found, there is also a bridge that may be characterised as a miracle of engineering.
The metal bridge that “overflying” above the deep gorge, on the bottom of which the water of the confluent of Diarizos flows, is a construction realised by an English engineer that served the English occupational army.
Without the help of arches, it joins the two shores that are found quite a few dozen metres away the one from the other, giving the observer the impression that he is... in the air. In reality it is a very well studied, designed and executed construction.
It has metal as its main material and in the place of a road surface it has wooden beams. Only one car can go over the bridge at a time, and its total weight should not exceed 8 tons.
We remained next to the bridge for a relatively short amount of time that did not exceed 30 minutes. 4 small cars, 1 small van and a big lorry passed over it, while two other small vehicles returned from it.
Even though the first impression that is created to the traveller is that of an old, insecure bridge, that is not offered for transit, it is wrong.
