The Holy Church of Agia Aikaterini in Vyzakia, is built in the old central part of the village. It was constructed mostly out of stones from the closeby river called Elia, and this is why it is very different from other Churches.
It was built in about 1885 and some parts were added later on. A few years ago, a settler of the village took the responsibility to renovate it.
The icon of Agia Aikaterini is unique since it is the only one in the world and you will not find a similar one anywhere. The settlers talk about many miracles that happened to the worshipers of the icon.
Agia Aikaterini was born in Alexandria of Egypt, and her parents were Roman nobles. She became a Christian from a very young age, and this lead to her death after many tortures. For a certain period of time, the Saint lived in Cyprus.
She is honoured on the 25th of November.
