Aglantzia is the most privileged area in the whole of Nicosia, and this is because it is build from the medieval ages, on a hill that dominates the whole valley.
The Franc occupiers, chose this specific hill and built the settlement, that functioned as an observatory. But its story goes quite further and deeper than that. There is evidence that there was a settlement in the area from the Orichalcum period
Before the Ottoman empire, the settlement was greatly developed and the population increased a lot. During the Ottoman period, a certain decadence took place.
During the 18th century it is organised in an independent agricultural settlement, when in progresses greatly once again.
In 1974, after the Turkish invasion, Aglantzia loses a great part of its agricultural land.
Today it is a big Municipality, with 22 thousand residents.
