The picnic area of Xerargaka has a capacity of 650 people. It spreads on a narrow strip of land, whose width does not exceed 40 metres and it is part of the bed of a small stream that is formed by the natural sources gushing out along its length.
It is an organised picnic area and the visitor will be able to find tables, grills and every other necessary equipment to spend a pleasant day, under the shade of the high platanus trees that cover the whole picnic area.
The picnic area Xerargaka is another success of the Department of Forests of Cyprus. For the protection of the place from a possible fire, men of the Department visit it very often and inspect it to check whether the excursionists follow the rules.
There are facilities for people with disability. These fellow humans can have access to the sanitary areas, to adequately place grills, so as to be able to approach them easily with the wheelchairs, and the most important, there are tables designed so as the wheelchair can be placed as a seat.
There are 4 points where natural sources of potable water have been transformed into stone built faucets, offering their water to the excursionists.
In the centre of the place there is another natural source, whose water crosses it and initially flows into a small lake with fish. From there it continues its journey and connects with the Setrachos river a few hundred metres away.
The two steep slopes that make up Xerargaka are covered by huge Pine trees. Beautiful wildflowers grow from the ground.
The picnic area of Xerargaka can be found if travelling towards Kalopanagiotis. Upon reaching the entrance of the valley of Marathasa and passing over the river Setrachos, you should continue towards the Orkonta station. In a distance of 300 metres you take the turn on your left, and after you pass over the river once again, in a 100 metres you will find the picnic area.
We are just reminding you that no fire should be lit out of the grill area. All rubbish should be collected and thrown into the big trash cans. Once the preparation of food is finished, all the charcoal that remains should be placed in the areas that have been created for it.
And finally, wildflowers should not be cut, since the fines will be very high.
Use the area and at departure, leave it cleaner than you found it upon your arrival.
