Kapedes is a village built on old bronze mines. Its residents mainly deal with agriculture and livestock, and this comes into contradiction with the immense land area which remains heath.
Kapedes was for many years the place where Nicosia residents invested in gites, which resulted into raising the prices of those pieces of land making them astronomical. Later on, the investments turned to Protaras and Agia Napa resulting to problems in land availability.
In the village there are two churches. One of them was built in 1731 and it honours our Lady and the other one is dedicated to Agios Georgios (Saint George).
No matter how many questions we asked and how much we searched, we were not able to find out where the name of the village came from, even though in some documents it is referred to as Capdor and Capedro.
