At the river of Elia, that has its sources high on the slopes of the Madari mountain, there are two Venetian bridges. The Medieval bridge of Agios Epiphanios that is found a little before the village of Lagoudera, and the Medieval bridge of Xyliatos. The two Venetian bridges were the only passages for the passers to and from the villages of Pitsilia, that are found on the northern slopes of Madari.
The two bridges have relatively easy accesses, even though the Medieval bridge of Xyliatos, is difficult to be followed due to the fact that it is exactly next to another one on the west, which is a more recent bridge, while on the east side there is dense plantation with brambles.
Of course, with a little of determination and with a lot of care, you can “open” a corridor through the brambles and see the bridge.
You will find the bridge a kilometre after the dam of Xyliatos, on your left, when going from the dam to Madari and the village of Lagoudera. It is found at the beginning of a dirt road of 8 kilometres long, taking you to the Monastery Stavros tou Agiasmati.
