At a distance of a kilometre from the picnic area of “Kionia”, and 100 before the peak of “Kakokefalos”, at an altitude of 1235 metres, you will find the beginning of the path of observation of nature “Kakokefalos - Mantra tou Kampiou”.
The path has a length of 5,5 kilometres and it has a difficulty coefficient of 3, which means that it has the highest grade of difficulty, and this is not unreasonable.
Do not try to “walk” along it without being appropriately prepared, physically and mentally. Even though the journey at its most is downhill, it passes through inaccessible and rugged areas. At some points it passes above vertical cliffs. At other points, it follows the river and passes through dense and low vegetation. There are many viewpoints from which you can see villages of Larnaca and Nicosia.
Just before the end of the journey that is at the picnic area, “Mantra tou Kampiou”, next to the torrent of Pedieos, you will pass by the ruins of an old forest station.
Do not try to walk along the path the other way round, that is, to start from the picnic area “Mantra tou Kampiou” to go towards Kakokefalos in Kionia. This way, the journey becomes a lot more difficult and it is not sure that you will finish it if you are not an athlete of some sort.
The path is linear. This means that at its finish, whichever that is, a car should be waiting for you, or else you will have to make the journey twice. They journey along the path has a lot to offer you. Apart from the biodiversity of the forest, you will be able to see the alternations in the volcanic rocks of the mountain. The view you will have when coming from Kakokefalos is unique, while the water’s gurgle will keep you company at most of the journey.
Mountain shoes to avoid slipping and water supply are two of the most necessary things for this kind of journeys.
Whoever manages to “overpower” Kakokefalos, will feel proud.
