The Holy Monastery of Panagia tou Araka is found on the northwest side of the village of Lagoudera, on a road that takes you to the nearby village, Saranti. It is a construction of the 12th century and it belongs to the single aisled Churches with a dome.
The Church is covered with a gabled wooden roof, with tiles. This roof creates stoae on the south, east and north sides. On the north there are also remains of the monastic cells.
It is part of the monuments of Worldwide heritage of UNESCO. It has unique frescoes since nowhere else will you find any of the same style.
In the same area, a hundred metres south, there is a giant of the Cypriot Forests of great dimensions. It is a huge oak which is dated in the time of the construction of the Monastery, 800 years ago.
The location, the church, its architecture, the stoa, the frescoes and the absolute silence of the area, transforms the visit to the Monastery of Panagia tou Araka, apart from the accomplishment of your religious duties, into a destination that will offer you the maximum.
