The Cypriot Department of Forests, has made the best out of the areas of the National Forest Park of Athalassa, and has created another very useful training centre, that aims to meet the Cypriots and foreigners with the plant life as well as the wildlife of Cyprus. They thus created the “Environmental Centre of Athalassa”.
The environmental centre is probably found in the most inadequate location. From the east side it is found opposite the University campus and a few hundreds of metres away from the University itself. In the west, you will find the Park of Agios Georgios and on the south the Lake of Agios Georgios. It is created in a green surrounding, and it offers knowledge, as well as a place where a family can spend a few hours walking along its paths.
Upon the journey, the visitor will see and receive information about many plants, trees, birds, animals and stones of our island. In the different rooms that are at your disposal, you will be able to watch short movies about the different areas of the island, and through microscopes you will be able to observe in detail the different parts of the plants.
In cages, you will be able to see and find out about different animals and birds in Cyprus. Cows, donkeys, geese, doves and partridges, and even sheep and goats. At some points there are taps with potable water, as well as benches so that the visitor may become an observer immediately.
On the outside, parking places, gardens with plants and cages with animals and birds there is no entrance fee, whereas there is an entrance fee of 1 euro for children above 6 years of age if you wish to visit the rooms.
