Peristerona is found built on the Morphou basin. It is at 36 kilometres from Nicosia.
The old village is west of the Serrachis tributary, that has the name of the village. Due to its geographical position, and to the fact that the ground is suitable for cultivation, as well as its rich aquifers, it has evolved a lot and it has been extended to both sides of the river in the past years.
From what the Muslim Mosque witnesses, there were also Turkish Cypriot settlers in Peristerona. The Mosque today is not in condition to receive believers.
Next to the river there is a Church in the name of the Saints Varnavas and Ilarionas. It is a five-domed Church and it is dated in the 12th century. On the south of the Church there is a chapel dated in the 16th century, in the name of Agia Varvara. Even if today it is in an overpopulated area, in its surroundings there is great silence, in contrast to the Church of the Saints Varnavas and Ilarionas that, being surrounded by coffee shops, there is a certain ataxy.
Peristerona, during the Turkish invasion in 1974, gave to 3 dead people and 3 missing people to the country. At the entrance of the village there is a monument being built in honour of these young men.
