The overflow of a dam in Cyprus is a very important moment. Its importance is not only extracted from the amount of water collected by the dam. The Water Development Department of Cyprus made sure that at most of the dams, if not all, that were created from 1960 until today, the overflow is combined with magnificent views.
The Xyliatou dam is found in the valley of the river Elia (which - another praiseworthy Department with perspectives, the Department of Forests transformed into a complete picnic area), at every overflow it is transformed into a waterfall spreading admiration to thousands of visitors.
We do not know who designed it and who envisioned it, but whoever it was, we are grateful for the wonderful views that it gives us.
The waterfalls at the Xyliatou dam last for 2-3 months, and if rainfall continues in March at the south mountain peaks, then their duration is extended.
