Sia (it is not about the infamous spying service, but a beautiful village in Cyprus), is built between two rivers, on a hill where it was protected from their vicious waters, succeeded to survive through the centuries. In a distance of about 28 kilometres from the Capital and 26 from Larnaca, it has easy access to both cities.
In Sia we can find remains from Roman settlements. Even though there have not been regular excavations in the area, some findings that are dated in the Roman period, clearly reveal their presence here.
As a community it works great. All the services and the Mukhtar are always available to the citizens. Schools and kindergartens. A youth centre and a community mansion, are built close to each other. The central church of the village is dedicated to Panagia Chryseleousa, celebrated on the 8th of September.
There are another five chapels. A few kilometres north of the village there is a cave where Agios Ioannis Spileotis became holy. You get filled with awe with the location of the cave (it is exactly in the riverbed), as well as the place where the German saint dug his cave then. In addition, the old chapel of the Saint was built on the riverbed. The new one is found a few metres higher on a flattened hill peak. At the entrance of the old village and in the courtyard of the church of Agia Irene Chrysovalantou, there is a monument for heroes.
Sia in the past years has evolved a lot. The green environment. The climate that is cool in summer with mild winters. The people’s meekness. The council that puts cleanliness above all. The low prices of land. The sufficiency in services. These are the reasons that pushed a lot of town citizens from Nicosia and Larnaca to select Sia as a permanent or countryside residence. The surrounding hills from the old village, are filled with huge villas.
