On the land where Akamas lay his tired body to rest from the fatigue of a ten year battle, is where the Goddess of Beauty and Love chose to meet her lover, the beautiful Adonis, when he came up on the surface of the earth from the world of the dead. A few dozen metres from the shore, in a very beautiful landscape where dozens of springs well out from the vertical slopes of the mountain peak, is where the Goddess took care of her body and waited for her lover, under the shade of the fig tree that hid her from the curious eyes of the people.

She bathed in perfumes offered by the hundreds of aromatic herbs and trees that exist in the area and with the water that the Cypriot land made sure to well out from it, making her even more beautiful and desired, so as to no one could resist her, neither a God nor a human.

The Goddess that was the reason for Adonis to be born years ago, after she guided the father and daughter to an illegal relationship, in order to save him from his father’s hatred, she stole him and put him into a shrine and delivered him to Persephone to raise him away from humans, in safety, given in the isolation of the underworld.

When Adonis grew up, Aphrodite asked from Persephone to deliver him back to her. In the meanwhile, she also fell in love with Adonis and wanted him for herself. A war broke out between the two Goddesses, something that caused the interference of Zeus, thus solving the conflict.

He divided the time into thirds and gave one to each Goddess. The last part was left to Adonis’ judgement, in order to be able to chose which Goddess he would like to spend it with. Aphrodite, using the magic love potions that the Cypriot Land that gave life to her and she succeeded that Adonis spent that time with her.

Years went by and the beautiful couple enjoyed their love, travelling to the beautiful landscapes of Cyprus. Dozens of rivers among beautiful valleys decorated with unique trees and plants, offered the lovers unique and unforgettable moments of happiness.

During one of the voyages, Adonis was killed by a wild boar, call it luck or call it an interference of some God. The Goddess, upon hearing the deadly cry of her loved one, froze.  She drove her chariot drawn by swans in the direction of the cry of Adonis and she found him covered in blood.

She pulled him up on her chariot and commanded the swans to fly high and fast, in order to transfer her loved one to her cave, so as to save him from death with the help of her potions. Adonis’ blood ran down from his wounds, and it “watered” the Cypriot land. Wherever it touched the earth, red roses sprung up from it at the same time when Aphrodite’s tears that fell on earth were transformed into anemones, thus filling the mountains and plains of Cyprus with thousands of colours.

After the death of Adonis and his transition to the world of the dead, the Goddess in love who was inconsolable, begged Persephone to allow him to come to her only six months of the year and the other six months could be spent with Persephone in the underworld. Persephone commiserated with the big love of Aphrodite and accepted her wish.

Thus, during six months of the year, the two lovers continue travelling and making Cyprus and its forests beautiful with their love. Sometimes at the Baths of Adonis and at others at the Baths of Aphrodite, away from the curious eyes of the humans and away from the greedy eyes of the Olympic Gods, behind the gold green fig tree leaves, both gods have the most of their love, thus making it even more beautiful with the cold waters that the Cypriot land gives them.

Today, thousands of people from all over the planet follow the steps of the two living Gods and lovers until Akamas and bathe in the same waters that make the bodies of the two young people more beautiful, thus preparing them for the complete giving.

There, at the Baths of Aphrodite, something mysterious and ritual takes place on the inside of each woman and young girl after they bathe in the cold waters of Akamas. You can see it on their faces. You can feel it in the atmosphere and you can hear it from the words of happiness that come from their lips.

When you find yourselves in the area as an observer or a follower of the Goddess, you can only have one conclusion in you. Goddess Aphrodite is alive, she exists and she is enjoying her love in the “tropical” forest of trees and bushes that smell at each blow of the wind.
