Selladi tis Aftoullinas is still a location in Cyprus that does not by any means remind us of its past. The marks of abandonment are more than visible on the only tap that refreshed the passersby that travelled from Poli Chrysochous to Stavros tis Psokas through the village of Lysos.
Selladi is found 5 kilometres from Kysos, on the intersection of the roads Lysos - Stavros tis Psokas and Lysos - Agios Merkourios.
Until a few years ago, the water was guided through a plastic pipe from the source that was very far away and all the way to the tap that the Department of Forests built, and passersby used to stop to drink some water and to take a rest under the shade that the high pine trees offered them.
A wild fig tree gave its sweet fruit during the whole summer. The travellers, locals and foreigners stopped in this location with their families and they walked along the forest, dirt roads that were there.
From the point where the tap is found, there is a dirt road that takes you to Stavros tis Psokas. The exit to it is found a kilometre south of the forest seedbed of Stavros. It is a wonderful journey. For many kilometres the road is parallel to the river “Stavros” and it takes you through beautiful, virgin landscapes. Very few travellers take this journey since there is another road that is covered in asphalt, and it takes you to the exact same place.
According to the season, this road is either a one way one, or is completely closed, due to the fact that the river and the landslides make it often inaccessible. If you dare to cover this way, do not mistake the direction that is allowed to be taken, otherwise if you meet another vehicle that will be coming from the opposite direction, you will have to cover a great distance in reverse.
It sounds like a difficult journey, and it is, but in the end, the landscapes that you will see will remain unforgettable to you.
